WHOA – What a long year, right?! I can’t believe we’re getting ready for Black Friday & Cyber Monday – however different they’ll look this year.
One of the biggest questions we receive around the holidays is this: “How can I update my website for the holidays? What can I do quickly to make enough of a change to make a positive impact in sales?”
Listen, your website needs to be three things: clean, to the point, and easy to navigate. If you’re heading into the holiday season without all three – it’s time to clean it up a bit.
And, doing so doesn’t have to be so complicated. Here are our favorite tips on cleaning house and organizing before the holiday madness hits:
Clean up your homepage. Make sure your graphics & imagery are up to date and accurately descriptive of what you offer. For example, if you sell handbags, make sure your homepage reflects that. If you sell gift items, make sure that’s highlighted.
Update your menus. Are they easy to understand? Is everything quick to find? Make sure your menus are very clear and simplistic but also written in a universal language. For example, use words like “tank tops” versus “the cute collection.” Your customers need to quickly find what they need. No fluff – to the point.
Make your policies clear. Ensure your return, shipping, and gift policies are easy to understand and easy to find. Again, no fluff – to the point. We want these to be as clear as crystal to avoid frustration.
Audit product listings. Go through your product listings & remove any items that aren’t applicable along with sold out items. Make sure all products have accurate descriptions, sizing information, and updated imagery.
Ensure all older orders are marked appropriately. Now would be a good time to go through old orders and make sure they’re all shipped out. You want to begin a busy holiday season with everything from the past taken care of. Ship out all orders, mark all shipped orders as fulfilled, clean up your customer service inbox, and trust us – it’ll help you clear your head a bit. Think of it like cleaning your house – everything feels soooo much better and more relaxed.
Is there anything else you’d add? We’d love to hear how you’re prepping for the holidays!
